Yates Precision Manufacturing | Merica Stainless Steel Safety Razor

I've been trying many different razors over the past year as I'm newish to safety razors. Over the year I have learned that some blades work for me and some not at all. With this little razor most of the blades work very well and give a comfortable shave. Im so happy that I pre-ordered.

Just had mine delivered in the mail today (preordered) and WOW!!! What a fine razor. 2 pass with a Personna Medprep and BBS. Even the wife noticed. I work in a world of CNC machines and wondered if the non blasted would make a difference with tooling marks still on the undersides but it was a quick and efficient shave. It was head heavy which meant less pressure needed. Great razor.

This razor was on my wish list ever since David Martin Ohioshaves did a video review of it and saying it gave him the best shave of 2023. I held off buying it to time the purchase of it in celebration of one of life’s milestones so I could justify getting yet another razor I wanted but didn’t need.

I finally ordered it but, ultimately, Jake couldn’t fill the order and had to refund my money because he went out of business. But now, thanks to Matt and Razor Emporium, I was able to order it on July 4th in celebration of our nations’ 250th anniversary.

The first shave on one day’s growth with a Personna Comfort Coat blade was actually a little disappointing. Had I reviewed it at that time I would have said I still preferred my Rockwell 6S and my Razorock Gamechanger with various baseplates (which may still be the case). But subsequent shaves with a Personna Gem Diamond Glide blade were more satisfying and in line with my expectations and put in on a par with those other razors. I would judge it to be about like a Rockwell 6S on the 3 or 4 plate.

I am hesitant to call any razor a “grail razor” but this one along with the aforementioned ones would come the closest. It will probably be awhile before I get the urge to buy another razor.

I've had it with positive exposure!

In my long experience of this type of shaving a tiny amount didn't matter. But as I've got older my skin has definitely thinned and weepers and nicks have occurred with razors which carry a modest positive when they never used to.

So decided to try a neutral exposure razor. And the Merica has ticked every box imaginable . It has performed superlatively and way beyond any expectations i may have had.

Super smooth, copes with every blade I've out it to. Great design and a real looker too!

I cannot envisage a better razor for me.
And having really enjoyed using the 921M for years I was delighted to see Matt and the team step up and as i understand it preserve the brand. Kudos to all involved or a top project well achieved

I saw someone else write that this is a Goldilocks razor, and I couldn’t agree more. Delivers an impressively close shave while not being overly aggressive. Very smooth and enjoyable to use!

As mentioned in a previous review, this is a mild razor and blade selection carries some weight, but with my setup (Personna Gem) it gives a pleasant, smooth, and not too unpleasantly close shave. Ergonomics are quite good even with the relatively short handle. Recommend

I’ve been waiting for over a year for this razor. I was too late when the original owners shut the door before I could get my hands on one. Tried to get it in for a birthday shave but it missed by a few days. Most times when I’m looking really forward to getting something, it is usually a big let down. I was going to display it beside the winning razor but had to adjust. I put all my same manufacturers razors together, unless they make it in the daily use mix. The Merica not only made it in the mix but is in my top ten and it is the least expensive on my list. It’s not a mild razor and it’s not an aggressive razor either. The razor is just smooth and efficient, the Goldilocks zone. This may be one of the three best razors made under a hundred dollars. Thanks Matt for not letting this razor fade away.

Dudes, I literally just had the best shave of my life. Brand new Yates Merica razor, Razor Emporium Citrus Soap / Aftershave, and a Rex Blade. All I can say is wow. The shave was very smooth and perfectly efficient. This was an awesome pickup for me. Guess I just got kicked down the Yates rabbit hole. Fantastic job Matt and Jake. Thank you for this marvelous contribution to the community. So freakin awesome!

I waited 2 1/2 months for this razor and I'm happy I did. I like supporting small businesses.

Blade selection is important with this mild razor. The first blade I tried was too mild for the Merica. I am currently using a Gillette Platinum blade, and it works very well. I wasn't sure if I would like the short handle, but the handle works well and I find the design to have lots of grip. This razor is much heavier than my Henson AL13++. It took me a couple of shaves to get used to it. I am enjoying the weight. I have been switching between the Henson and the Yates and enjoying both.
