This razor is great. If you are looking for a piece of art that does work, this is it! I purchased the prospector version that has gold accents. It’s a bit gauche but what can I say. The razor looks better in person than in pictures. It has a great balance to it. The finish is super smooth and the blade glides very nicely. The only con is adjusting the blade mid shave. I use pre-shave oil and it leaves my hands slick making it difficult to adjust. On the more aggressive settings you can really feel the blade. I typically shave at 2-3 and then turn it down to 1-1.5 for the clean up pass. Overall amazing razor. If you are considering I would suggest purchasing. I would go as far as recommending it as a first razor. Bottom line, the more I have been shaving with this razor the more I like. My final rating is 4.99/5.

One of the best high end razors on the market. Perfect balance and weight. Love the XL. Adjustability makes it great for all levels of wet shavers.

I bought the XL Ambassador in rhodium with the matching rhodium stand. While they were pricey, I would buy them both again. The razor is wonderful and provides a great shave every time. Love that its made in the USA. If you are into wet shaving, it is a must have.

This is the 4th razor purchase and have not seen a review request before. All items are of the highest quality. They even took some product of mine for store credit.

Man, where do I begin? Absolutely love this razor after 3 shaves in. Little expensive, but great things come with a price. Bought for my birthday. Looking forward in the near future for other razors in the coming holidays ahead.

This is an amazing razor. Its build quality is top-notch, arguably the best in the industry. I've been using double-edge razors for about ten years, but I took a couple of years off before returning. I used to experience irritation, but after using this razor and experimenting with blades, I've found the perfect combination. If you're searching for the best razor money can buy, I believe you've found it.

First, the quality fit, and finish of the Rex Ambassador is so good that it is just plain fun to look at! I cannot find any faults with this razor. Of all the razors in my substantial collection, (that I never meant to have), current, or vintage, the Ambassador has narrowly unseated my Fatboy and risen to #1. I consider the two razors to be of very similar build quality, shave quality and adjustability With the exception that the fat boy is not aggressive enough to easily handle a 7+ day beard; even at it’s highest setting of 9. My first shave with my new Ambassador was by design, a seven day beard. It was a three pass shave using settings of 6, 4, and a final skim pass with setting of 1. Even with seven days of growth, 6 was a little more aggressive than I needed, however, it was very comfortably with no nicks and no burn. I’m fairly sure that level 6 would shave a woolly mammoth. The end result of my first shave was perfection. One pass would have been acceptable by normal standards. Prior to the arrival of the Ambassador, my Fat Boy was my EDS, with an Muhle R41 for the 7+ beard days. I will keep them all as well as the rest of the accidental collection as it is fun to rotate them. They all offer something unique. But, if I could only have one, it would be either the Ambassador or the Fatboy. Fortunately, I don’t need to choose. I highly recommend this razor. This kind of quality is rarely found anymore at any price. Great Job Rex Supply and Razor Emporium.

#1- Razor Emporium fully refunded the razor purchase- terrific customer service!
#2- I've since been educated by the team at Razor Emporium that one cannot/should not leave the blade in the razor as it will encourage rusting. (I had no idea!)

Very disappointed to find that the top piece of metal with the screw that threads into the shaft is all rusted after less than 2 weeks of use.
I’m very disappointed that I already have to deal with a warranty issue on something that was supposed to be “heirloom” like quality.

Have had this razor for over a week and used it 3x's. Most amazing shave ever and I have some really top-notch razors. I also tried the BL Osprey and sent i back as fast as I got it. The handle cut outs that expose the brass weight felt like you were holding cut glass. The Rex is of excellent build quality. Terrific piece of hardware.

I'm a collector of adjustable razors. The Rex Ambassador is my #1 razor of them all. Always a perfect BBS shave. Thank you for making this razor!

I wanted an adjustable razor because my job requires daily shaving. I splurged on this purchase and I do NOT regret it. Solid and well made. Very smooth on all settings. This is my daily shaver now.

This is a beautiful machine. Balance and design are perfect. My only issue is that the blade is very forward and creates an aggressive shaving experience. Obviously this is a personal review and YMMV.

After much research. I purchased the Ambassador XL. I did not disappoint. I love it and admire the excellent service Razor Emporium provides. Love to see quality from the USA. Thank you Rick

I Love this Prospector Version of a Rex Ambassador

I have been using the Ambassador XL for 40 days now, as a daily user, I purchased the Stainless Steel version,
I did have to polish the head though, I found that the offered finish makes the head drag on skin on the last pass, polishing just the head top surface and the blade lips converted the razor into an amazing tool. I also like the combination, it looks now like a surgical hi-end device with the stainless steel rugged look and the hi-end mirror shining head top and lips, Shame I cannot add a photo.
This has turned into the No 1 Razor for me,

I bought this razor when it first came out. My first shave was less than spectacular, and I sent it back to Matt for an adjustment. The razor came back, I shaved with it once and put it back in the drawer. Last night I pulled it out for use this morning and the shave was spectacular. I set it on 2.5 and used a Gillette Nacet. I forgot and needed to remind myself what a spectacular razor Rex makes, this one being my third. This razor is a great addition to anyone's collection.

I do two passes. I use setting 2 with the grain. Then setting about 1.25 against the grain. As good as or possibly better than the most expensive disposable i’ve used. Also, surprisingly faster since it rinses out without banging it on my sink.

I use the Astra SP with this amazing Razor on setting 2, take 3 passes and get the “Baby Butt” shave.
If you are looking for the one razor for daily shaves - look no more. This is one of the very best

Sometimes you just have to treat yourself and live like there's no tommorrow. First I purchased the XL Envoy and didn't return it. And then when I purchased The Ambassador I understood that if you wan't to make some sort of profit with this man, you have to embrace his vision and spend more than any razor should sensibly cost, no matter how many urban women spend 300 dollars on fake hair. The adjustment is a dealbreaker. I got tired of cutting myself on minor razor bumps., this way my three day shaving ritual doesn't leave me raw and defeated. In the words of Stan Lee... Excelsior!

Unfortunately I have not been able to experience the razor yet because I had to return it for an exchange due to a manufacturing/assembly issue. By the serial number of the razor which had a Gillette date code ending in S2, this razor was a very recently manufactured one but the blade guards were not parallel with the rest of the assembly causing the blade to be exposed skewed. Took several pictures and contacted Razor Emporium support which immediately offered to replace it with a brand new one once they had received the defective one back, which they received on July 1, 2022 at 3:33 PM Arizona time, and I am still awaiting for them to acknowledge they received it and had shipped me the replacement.

I got the Ambassador XL with the deluxe finish and I'm happy with the fact that I have a razor that will last longer than I will. It is a pleasure to shave with and it's a engineering masterpiece. 5STARS all the way

I splurged and went for the Rhodium polished/plated Deluxe version. It started rusting within two weeks of use. Absolutely unacceptable.

I have both a regular Rex (2 years), and I bought Rex XL Gold ... coating with gold promotes a really smooth/slippery/gentle sense of its all parts. This razor is well balanced and its quality is perfect.
Strongly recommend to buy it!

What an excellent product!! I've been using an Edwin Jagger DE89 for about 5 years now and decided to try something new. DE89 is a great razor but since I got the REX Ambassador XL I'm going to put away my DE 89 and use it as a backup or during travel because I don't want to lose my REX. REX Ambassador is THE BEST RAZOR I EVER USED. Had it only 1 week and been using it with ASTRA Platinum blades. Tried it on setting 3 and its very sharp , so I don't know how people can use it on higher settings , maybe if they have 2 weeks beard growth. I'm a daily shaver except on weekends so all I can go up to is a 2 setting. Tried 3 initially as Matt does and it was a little too sharp and gave me razor burn on my neck so I went down to 2 and IT WORKS PERFECT. This week I will be trying it with Personna blades so we will see how they work, I'm sure they will work perfect. Thank you REX Supply for this great product, it truly is THE BEST RAZOR I EVER USED. I’ve use a Gillette Adjustable for over 50 years. I’ve always thought it is a good razor, but the new Rex razor takes double edge shaving to a new level. It is expensive, but well worth it.
