Rex Supply Co. | 1944 Old World Tallow Shaving Soap

One can never go wrong with a tallow-based shaving soap, and 1944 delivers. As with the other soaps in this series, the lather provided excellent cushioning for the razor to effortlessly cut through stubble. I recommend pairing with the 1944 after shave splash, and the scent had the staying power throughout the day, which I had come to expect and appreciate with this series. The combination of bay rum and leather was a nice, vintage touch, and I found myself channeling the Glenn Miller Orchestra, a night at the O Club, and a Curtiss P-40. 1944 is a welcome addition to this, my favorite series, and another excellent shave!

Great soap! I have tried many different brands, both tallow and non-tallow, and this one gives a great shave. Will buy again!

This is my favorite scent for a shave soap and I have always hated the bay rum scent until now. It’s also the first soap I’ve ever let bloom and bowl lather. I don’t feel like the lather is that amazing, I’ve used many other soaps that were better. Where this soap truly excels is the scent and the lubricant properties. The smell is so good it’s like the moment the bacon scent and fresh brewed coffee meet in the morning. It does the same thing, the smell just pops you awake in the morning. It gives that it’s going to be a great day scent. When I get up in the morning, take most of my breakfast in the form of meds, have my cup of coffee with an egg and a couple of pieces of bacon. The moment I truly look for is my shower/shave. 1944 helps start the day.

I have been shaving for many years, used many products, and the 1944 Rex tallow soap ia the most satisfying I have ever used. It is fun to add some water to the soap, twirl the brush and watch the bubbles get smaller and smaller until a creamy lather appears. (adding just the right amount of water to the soap/brush is the secret) Applying the lather to my face is almost sensual (ok, overhype). When shaving I have noticed two things: blades last one or two times longer than normal; and there is enough lubricant left to hit a missed area without needing to re-lather. Finally, it rinses well and leaves my face nicely conditioned. The aroma - while not classic bay run -- is very agreeable. I would love to have the same soap without fragrance so I can add my own aftershave right away instead of waiting for the scent to dissipate. This is the first soap that has made me change from my old standty, TOBS for sensitive skin. Kudos to the alchemist. The only thing better, at least for me, would be the same soap without fragrance.

Same great shaving soap base from Rex Supply that we all appreciate. I wanted to try something from Rex with Bay Rum. This soap does have a more of a citrus smell than Bay Rum. Not a bad scent, but the Bay Rum is very subtle. Still, great shaving soap for a smooth shave that leaves my skin feeling great.

Can't say enough about the 1944 shaving soap. Wow amazing. The scent of Bay Rum and leather is amazing. The shaving soap lathers up great. Overall, It leaves my skin smooth, soft, and smelling great all day long. Definitely, buying it again.

This lathers up so easily and produced a very smooth shave. I find the scent pleasant. Others have waxed poetic on the citrus top notes and the lingering subtle tobacco, vanillla notes beneath. Very nice addition to the den.

OK, I'm a noon. When I first got this, it was labeled as shaving soap. I have all the other scents in this series, so am familiar. When I opened the container, I was like "hmmm, this looks different." Very goopy. I tried to use it as a soap and it didn't go too well. A few days later, my two synapses fired, and I thought "oh, is this a CREAM?" (again, I'm not smart). So I tried it in a bowl and lathered as a cream and the outcome was far superior. It was thick and rich and amazing. Maybe I got a weird batch. The smell is amazing; to that end, my wife likes it. She's like the entire 19xx series with the '55 and '44 being her favorites. It's forward with bright citrus (I did not expect to like) but I smell a hint of tobacco that lingers (I am not sure it's in the ingredients but it reminds me of it). I love it. It's very nostalgic and classy. I can't recommend it highly enough. I have loved the whole series. I'm not sure how Matt designed them to mimick the era, or if they even do lol, but that's besides the point. They are phenomenal. People can rave about Ariana and Evans and others, but these are may favorites....aside from a few Italian ones (I'm Italian by ancestry, after all lol). Great job! Keep them coming! One of the best Bayrum scents. Very fresh smelling,a pleasure to use.

This is the best of the products in this series in all areas, fragrance, performance, lather, etc. Will use this as my usually go to!

In regard to the scent, 1944 is not your typical bay rum. It's an elegant blending of scents that capture the essence of an era gone by. The citrus notes are complementary to the dark rum accord. Vanilla bean provides a smooth scent that allows all of the scents to happily commingle with one another.

This is a bay rum that doesn’t allow the bay rum characteristics to overshadow the other scents. 1944 has definitely earned a position as a top tier bay rum in my collection. I felt like I wanted a long time for `944 to see the light of day, and all I can say is it was definitely worth the wait.

When it comes to performance, the Razor Emporium soaps are beyond amazing. At times, I feel, all I have to do is look at the tub of soap and it explodes in fluffy, slick and silky lather. This soap is magic.

1944 is a treat for gentlemen seeking a refined shave. The aroma is mature and well bodied, and the lather is silky and plentiful. I find myself using 1944 over all my other soaps for the effortless interaction it creates between the blade and hair. The scent of the soap is captivating and mature - something you'd find in a luxury barber shop. Shipping and service, as always was fast and effortless. I look forward to using 1944 as my daily soap in my ever-growing shave collection!
