Razor Emporium Beginner Straight Razor - Gold Dollar 208 | SHAVE READY

This was my first real razor purchase. I had practiced with a cheap made blade and done enough to decide it was blade quality limiting me. When I first got this razor I noticed I could only really shave the heel. I sent a message asking what I should do, and was almost immediately answered. They sent the package to send it back free of charge for honing or replacing. They were able to hone the razor and I’m now 5-10 shaves in and highly satisfied. Great costumer service and great quality product. Highly recommend.

This is my 1st straight razor. Boy have I waffled on the selection of this razor or another more precious one. After receiving and inspecting, I found that the sides are well fitted and house the blade squarely. The tapered design has a masculine profile. The blade is well polished, oiled and sharp. There was the slightest blade edge chip near the tip corner. I've stropped before and after shaving and have completed my first three successful straight razor shaves. The razor cleans up easily. My only down side comment is that I have no reference as to what "shave ready" means. I shaved, it was ready. To me it was a wee bit tuggy but I have no reference to compare it and it could be my technique. I'm using it on an every-other-day basis. Each shave helps with more experience wielding the razor. Overall, I would purchase again.

This razor wasn't nearly as sharp as I hoped. I'm new to straight razor shaving and the price on this was right, the experience though was not. I thought it might be my technique that was off so I tried a shavette with a disposable razor brand I know works well (I use a double edged safety razor normally) for my skin and it provided a much better shave using my same newbie technique. I wouldn't purchase this razor for the price again.

Was no where near shave ready. Bought stone & a strop but it is less sharp than before. Really disappointed & I honestly want my money back.

After several months of shaving with dovo and boker razors tonight I shaved with the gold dollar and it shaved just as will as my my dovo and boker blades , I have had all year to hone these things though , as I have bought stones to hone them , I think a Dollar razor can do just as good as any other straight razor as long as it is taken care of properly

I first tried a cheap $10 straight razor and thought, "no way is this ever going to work." Then I heard about the great beginner razors here and decided to give one a shot; The difference was night and day. The blade was ready to use out of the box and I've started down my new shaving journey. Absolutely love it.

Works great needed a little stroping. Only complaint is that it is out of alignment with the scale. Doesn’t close without guidance.

Wanted to see if I liked using a straight razor. Saw the YouTube video about this razor from this website’s channel. Decided to give it a try. Had a great shave for about 4-5 shaves. Now very dull. Even with stropping. I’ve had to sharpen it myself with whetstones just to get it usable again. I’d recommend just buying a shavette if you want to see if straight razor shaving is for you. Then you can invest in a better razor.

I think it’s a good razor I’m new to straight razor shaving ,I think I just need to learn how to use it like a did with a shavette

Hi, I bought this for my son for xmas and was hoping it would be ready to go, out of the box. Although the product feels good in the hand is beautiful, the actual blade was not sharp enough to cut hair. Since I enjoy keeping my kitchen knives sharp, I do have a a couple wet stones that I will use to work on it and get it razor sharp! As a comparison, my son got a camping knife that was much sharper and easily cut arm hair out of the box.

I’m no expert and to be fair this is my first straight razor but it feels a little on the low quality spectrum . I know there are better quality and more expensive straight razors but for the prize I was expecting better handle material and better sharpened blade.

Like other reviewers have mentioned - save your $ and spend a bit more for proper straight razor. Steel on this product is not the best and the most important part - the shaving edge - suffers as a result. Your skin will thank you.

As advertised a truly good shaver. Shave ready and good for a beginner like me.

Decided to buy this razor for traveling and to practice stropping and proper razor care. I keep reaching for it, even though my TI Wolfe an Sheep, Dovo B. Lowe, and Hart Steel are honed and ready to give a great shave. The audible feedback is amazing, almost as good as the Dovo. The blade feels like a 5/8, quite nimble and easily maneuverable. Good heft to it as well, just as hefty as the Hart. Love the scales, great looking. Yes, its plastic, but its a 50 dollar amazing razor. This will forever stay in my rotation. If your looking to start straights, this is THE BEST razor for it. My compliments to the honemeister and Razor Emporium for such a amazing product at an amazing price point.

I did need to strop the razor the first time I used it. But 12 laps on the linen and 50 laps on the produces a sharp edge.

Best 50 dollars I've spent in years. Most companies say "shave ready" but clearly are not. This razor is absolutely shave ready, came clean, stropped and oiled with mineral oil, food and skin safe just like they stated. Thank you Matt. Sincerely -Cameron

Out of the 3 razors I've tried from different brands this one did not disappoint, feels really good & sturdy comfortable & easy to use did come shave ready. No regrets here very happy with the purchase.

Razor is made fairly well with good quality material. Grips nice handles well and nicely sharpened.

I purchased the razor to see if I could and would like using a straight razor. The videos were very helpful and inspired confidence.

Shaving with a straight razor is easier than expected and not as scary. I actually find it

I now shave at night so that I can take my time , focus and enjoy the experience. I use to shave in the morning and rush through it to get ready for work. I did not find that as enjoyable.

I have bough a vintage straight razor from here and look forward to using it but I want to get a few more shaved under my belt with this one. I also want to get more practice on the beginner strop before I strop the vintage razor.

I cannot explain it, but for me, shaving with a razor the a quality razor that was made over a hundred years ago iAds something extra to the experience.

I am already researching and looking for another vintage razor.

The razor itself is exactly what you pay for. It will show up razor sharp, ready to deliver a smooth shave, but the steel itself is of lesser quality and I imagine it will ding and divot pretty easily. Here’s why I’m so impressed: I ordered my first razor on a Saturday and it arrived on Monday afternoon, so the shipping was great, when it showed up it was dull, dinged, and couldn’t shave the hair off my arm let alone my face. I called razor emporium and within a few minutes they not only sent out a brand new razor but gave me a new strop as well. When I asked them if this was a common issue for them, they responded by saying that because each razor is sharpened and honed by hand, some will slip through the cracks and get shipped out in less than ideal quality, but they will always replace faulty razors and do what they can to make things right. The staff I spoke with was friendly, intelligent, and able to help make me feel better about choosing them for my first straight razor. If money was no issue I would have gone one step up and bought the DOVO as I have extremely sensitive skin so the higher the quality of steel the less I break out, but if you’re looking for a great shave on a budget, this is the product, and company to chose.

Good entry razor - Went to a DE razor then this entry level straight razor. Good starting point to see if I want to shave this way -- yes.

It really shaved right out of the box. My best straight shave so far, but I’m still figuring this all out.

I was able to shave with it out of the "box" (plastic bag), so that was good. It wasn't as sharp as my shavette, so I may send it out to get re-honed.. though that's another $20 + shipping.. so, i'm not sure what i'm going to do. I did buy the travel strop with it, so I'll try stropping it first. I wouldn't buy one of these again though. Seems a bit expensive for the quality.

I got this razor after trying to shave with this Boss razor that was free, just pay for shipping. Not a good start. Now this little Gem Really gets the job done. I love it. And it really is Shave Ready. Now I just wish i could afford that cool Tee shirt. I have to wait
