NEW Henson Shaving AL13 Double Edge Safety Razor - Mild

Like many, I was the intended target audience for the Henson. It has changed my life. I have coarse, straight hair and never had irritation with disposables. I just wanted a closer shave. It took me 2-3 shaves but I now am left with an extremely close shave that lasts days longer than the multiblades. It takes a little longer and you need more stuff, of course, but the initial investment pays off over tile and the other accoutrements are as cheap or expensive as you want them to be. I throw a few different milder blades in here that I have come to love and am off to the races. I have also tried a few other safety razors and have found, personally, that the Henson fits my needs. I just wanted a closer shave as easy as I can get it. I’m not a hobbyist who wants to own different razors, have different experiences depending on my weapon of choice that day, and challenge myself with a Muhle R41 one day. There is also absolutely nothing wrong with that as well. These are beautiful, inexpensive, functional tools that last a lifetime compared to other hobbies. Either way though, because of the design and the preset angle that greatly minimizes cuts and nicks, it’s hard to recommend anything else for a beginner. In my case, I don’t need anything more. Except the titanium one.

I changed from a Harry’s razor to a single edge razor about 6 months ago. I had seen the Henson AL13 on YouTube at Ohio Shaves and Razor Emporium. I decide to make the plug to a Double edge and the Henson. What a remarkable difference. The shave is so smooth and BBS. Glad I finally got the Henson. Razor Emporium did a great job shipping.

I now use this for my 2nd pass and sometimes 3rd pass when I want a real close (wife) shave against the grain. It is great for around the lip area.

I heard alot about how good Henson was but the price definitely was a factor. I decided to get this and was blown away on how lightweight it is. I was able to get a close shave with no irritation whatsoever. Going over areas like my chin was no problem for this safety razor. This razor glided through my facial hair like butter. Plus it's great for my sensitive skin with is a huge plus as well. Henson is definitely worth the price if you're looking for a razor that delivers.

A mild version of the all aluminum razor and light. The handle length is good, and the angle for shaving is set. My reason for 4 stars is it is very light. I will keep it as it is well made.

I live in Spain and on Amazon the Henson AL13 is €90, so I decided to purchase it from Razor Emporium as it worked out around €63 plus shipping. Unfortunately I had to pay €25 customs charge so it actually cost me more than €90. Having previously used a Merkur Futur a Merkur 34c and a Muhle, I wanted to see if there was anything else better and having done a bit a research the AL13 came up again and again. Tonight 20th May 2025 having received my razor on Monday I used it for the 1st time. I also used the Henson blade that come with it. Wow, wow, wow, the shave was incredible, I have never had a better shave, I can't put it better than that. The hard to reach spot under my nose was easy, everything about the shave was perfect. The razor itself is extremely light but it has a nice length handle with excellent grip. If you didn't get a life time guarantee with this razor I would be buying another one as back up. If your thinking about a new razor, please go and get this it is phenomenal. The Henson blades you get are extremely good too and don't feel aggressive and I have just ordered a box of 100 from Amazon. THANK YOU Henson a magnificent feat of engineering. One thing I want to add about Razor Emporium, I emailed them as my razor had been stuck in Madrid for 3 days and I wanted to know what was going on. Sadly they didn't respond, so that was poor.

It’s mild. Irritation and cut free!

As advertised, a razor that anyone can pick up and begin using, the small blade extension makes it very very unlikely to cut/nick yourself making it a very good razor to transition to double edge. For me personally, I switched from cartridge razors and not having razor burn anymore has ensured I will keep this razor for a very long time. Note that it will give you a smooth shave but its not super close so you almost will have to shave on a daily basis.

I had always wanted to try a double-edge (DE) safety razor but was afraid of getting nicks due to the learning curve coming from cartridge razors (such as Gillette Mach 3). I researched the internet to find the mildest safety razor and came across this one. It is perfect for a beginner! It has a fixed angle which makes it a bit safer and has a mild option. I let the weight of the razor guide me and did not get any nicks at all. I also recommend getting a Double Edge Safety Razor Sample Pack - Mild from Razor Emporium. It is great to pair with this product.

I have the V1 and now this V2. Both in the Mild. They're excellent head shavers IMO when use as a daily driver. The V2 is definitely an improvement, with the clipped corners, larger lather channel and slightly improved efficiency. Outstanding choice for beginners. But even veteran wet shavers as I can appreciate it.

Best razor I've ever used. Impossible to cut urself. I'm a daily headshaver and this razor is perfect for the job.

I started out aggressively with the +++ model, as reviews when i was looking for my first razor said that was the biggest issue with Henson. The + model seems to be just what i needed and had no hesitations in buying a second... might even get the medium just to have the collection

This is a amazing razor. The quality of the construction really shows thu with this one. I wish I would have found this year's ago. It would have saved me a ton of money and a ton of cuts

I am new to wet shaving, though when I try something like this that I like I jump in with both feet. I have bought a few DE safety razors now from Henson, Rockwell and Rex. The Henson mild is by far the mildest. I think you would would have to sincerely try to cut yourself to get nicked. I have sensitive skin, but it is even a little too mild for me. Would probably go with the medium if I were to get another one. Great razor otherwise thoughin my newbie opinion.

I bought this razor in blue and used several times already. It is a safe razor and I would say more mild than than the Merkur 34. I then went back and bought the medium a week later and boom that was the trick. I will use the mild as an everyday if needed otherwise it will be the medium aggressive version for the 1 to 3 day shaves. I will place them in my top five daily users behind the Rockwell 6s and my Merkur Futur.

Good shave I only cut myself once, little difficult to get the right angle but I like it

I didn't like this razor. I use hot water when shaving and because it's metal the heat is transfered to the razor. Secondly it has poor balance. It's top heavy and you have no feel of the pressure being applied. Nothing beats my Schick Extreme 3 with the flexing blades and my Schick handle from 2015 which is not made anymore. I just buy the bulk packs for one dollar each on Amazon and remove the blade portions. I'll pass on single edge razors.

Great shave, everytime! This razor is very easy to use and highly effective.

I have been using the Merkur 34C, but mostly my Merkur Progress on setting 2-3. This razor shaves comparably. It is light weight so requires a little pressure compared the heavier Merkurs, but the shave it gives is great. I recommend it.

After decades shaving with cartridge razors, I got sick and tired of the cost and went out looking for something better. I read a ton of articles and watched dozens of YouTube videos about shaving with double edge (DE) razors, and the low cost of the blades. A lot of people were giving the Henson Shaving AL13 razor high marks and were recommending them, so I thought I'd try one. What caught my eye was that the AL13 was designed and manufactured in Canada. I think this may very well be the only non-Chinese product in my house! So big cheers to Canada, our friendly, smart and talented neighbor to the north.

The result of my shave with the AL13 was a very close, very smooth shave that did not irritate my sensitive skin. After so many years shaving with a cartridge razor, I'd been afraid to try anything else. The Henson, however, proved to me that a double edge safety razor was not going to hack my face to pieces. You may want to try the AL13 along with a more aggressive razor if you find the AL13 to be too mild for some areas of your face. Overall, I'd have to say that the AL13 delivers a very comfortable, cartridge-like shave. I hope the rest of the razor manufacturers learn some important lessons from the AL13.
