Merkur 50C Progress Adjustable DE Safety Razor

I’ve been wet shaving for many years and have purchased many DE razors. Instantly this razor became one of my all time favorite razor. Fit and finish, adjustability and ease of use all add up to a very comfortable shave. Razor Emporium is truly the one place to shop for all your shaving needs. I like the razor, but don’t like the handle. I find it to be slick and too narrow when shaving. The razor head is good, just not going thru the learning curve.

Works as advertised, just wish the handle was an inch longer.
It will just take getting used to the short handle.

So, I'd probably give this razor about a 4.7 if it were an option. There are a couple reasons why it's short of a 5. First, my story behind the pirchase. I had bought the King C. Gillette from Wal-Mart, which worked fine, but it was really slippery to hold and it was just too mild of a razor for even my light to medium hair growth. Now, enter this adjustable gem. It's like a hot knife through butter. It's very comfortable to use and hold. It's a sexy razor minus the yellow knob. The three things I didn't like are mainly minor or personal preference. 1) The top cap must be positioned a specific way or it won't work. 2) The tiny dot marking the 1-5 aggressiveness is difficult to see especially when wet (I painted it with nail polish to see it better). 3) Be careful turning the dial because I was messing around with mine when I first got it and the parts inside the razor handle came out. With the spring loaded tension and everything it was challenging to put back together. Overall, excellent razor, I would definitely buy it again. I've had three other DE razors in the past and this one is my favorite.

I've been wet shaving a long time and have many razors. I waited a long time to try this one and I'm not sure why. This is a quality razor that provides BBS shaves on a single pass. I absolutely love it and it's now my daily shaver.

This razor is great. The adjustability really helps get rid of irritation I had struggled with. As a teenager, the adjustability is amazing for when I may have an acne breakout and need a more mild shave on some parts of my face. I cannot recommend this razor enough!

There are only so many adjustable razors so I picked this one. Looks very classic and works great for a pseudo beginner. Love the variable blade because I don't always shave every day so its nice to have that option.

I have only used the new Mekur 50C razor 4 times but compared to my old Gillette Sensor-Excel cartridge (2 blade) razor it seems to result in a much better shave. It was getting hard to find blades for the old Sensor-Excel and I was not happy with the expensive 3 - 5 blade cartridge game. I found Razor Emporium.com and decided to give the old style double razor a try. Wish I had kept my old Gillette double blade razor that I used until the late '70's.

Personally do not like this razor .
Shave seemed harsh and aggressive even on lowest setting . Perhaps due to a different bend in blade from the head system design . I have several Merkur models and find them excellent shavers with very good build quality as well as fit and finish . This model just did not give me a comfortable shave .

I have used a fair amount of razors in my quest for the "perfect one". I don't know if a perfect one in fact exists, but if it does, it got to be the Merkur Progress.
This is so easy to use, I would recommend to any wetshaver newbie without hesitation. The cutting angle is so close to what a cartridge razor is, that it makes the transition effortless. On top of that, you can set the blade exposure to suit your needs and skin, which is great. Very well built and finished. Has that classic look to it. This is the second progress I bought. Since buying the first, my other razors are just collecting dust.
