Tune-Up Service

SKU: TuneUp

Description

Have a razor that needs to be cleaned, polished and adjusted? Tune it up!

What We Do

Vintage safety razors pack some of the most bang for the buck, but knowing if they are fully functional, hygienic and shave-ready is a different story. Starting at $29, we offer a professional restoration that helps bring your old-school razor back to its glory days.

*Please Note: Specialty razors include Bottom Dial Fatboy, Red Dot Fatboy, and Toggle Safety Razors.

How it Works

  1. We first clean your razor in our industrial ultrasonic machine to remove any soap scum, mineral deposits and grime. Disassembly is carried out for the best results whenever possible.
  2. Next we carefully polish the inside and out of your razor, bringing the vintage metal up to a high luster.
  3. Mechanical adjustments are made to ensure the best functionality of your razor.
  4. We carry out any painting that is needed - numbers on adjusters, tips on super speeds and black handles. We use color-matched powder coating that exactly replicates the original factory colors and process.
  5. Razors are again cleaned and sanitized before being lubricated and mailed back home. We include a free Polishing Cloth that will safely keep the shine on your vintage find!

Why It Matters

Professionally servicing means you'll get the best shaves possible knowing that your razor is functioning as it was designed to. Eliminate common problems that affect shaving performance such as:

  • Bent guards
  • Uneven blade gap
  • Frozen adjusters
  • Loose handles
  • Jammed doors
  • Twist To Open issues
  • Broken Clicker Spring (if you have an adjustable and it doesn't click anymore select the above option)

    Gillette Executive Adjustable D3

I recently purchased a Gillette Executive Adjustable D3 razor that was in excellent cosmetic condition. In fact, it looked like it had seen very little use. However, the first shave with it was very rough compared to my daily driver E4 standard 195 Fatboy. I checked the blade gaps on the Executive, and sure enough, they were way above spec even on setting #1 and were different on the opposite blade edges. Also, the TTO action did not feel the same as the E4. I did a partial tear-down and minor cleaning, but that did not help. Sent the razor in to Matt and the crew at RE for the tune-up service. Total turn-around time including shipping both ways was 12 days, which was very good. Razor came back looking great, except for a few small specks of black paint on the handle and on the plated collar between the adjustment dial and the black trim ring. I was able to remove those easily enough with nail polish remover and a few Q-tips. Checked blade gaps, they are even on both sides and well within specs on all settings. Razor shaves great now, and I'm glad to put this one in my regular rotation. Thanks for a great job!

    1948-1950 Gillette Super Speed razor

l had just recently bought a Gillette Super Speed razor from a guy online for $35.00 and when I got the razor I noticed that the doors were not opening and closing smoothly, looking closer i discovered that one of the end caps was pushed back into the door hing preventing the doors from opening and closing smoothly as they should so I decided to send the razor in to be tuned up which cost me $40.00 (tune up and cost of shipping it back to me when it was repaired). It took about 3 to 4 weeks for the razor to be shipped back. When I received it at first I was very pleased with it until I saw 2 tabs of metal at the bottom of the head of the razor that was not there before. I contacted Matt and inquired about it, he informed me that in order to fix the hings the tabs were bent down so that they could repair the damage. I asked Matt that if I sent the razor back could they bend the tabs back to their original position and he said no. According to him that if they tried it would ruin the razor and that they have no means of bending the tabs back to their original position saying that they don't have the equipment to do so and that it would cost them alot of money to purchase the equipment(if they have a means to bend the tabs down then they have the means to bend them back to their original position without ruining the razor). I told Matt that I have seen razors that were in far worse shape than mine and that they have taken other razors apart piece by piece and reassembled them to their original condition without the tabs being bent down and left there. Matt told me to send a video, or link to the vendor that could do this as Matt said he would love to know how and when i told him that I was referring to Razor Emporium I didn't hear from him again. I am very disappointed and very displeased with Matt and Razor Emporium and the fact that l had spent all together more than $70.00 for a razor that is in less than satisfactory condition and they had refused to address or correct the problem they had caused. Razor Emporium on their website states that their sevice is guaranteed and that they stand behind their word......this is false advertising as they do not guarantee their work nor stand behind their word. So for those out there in the wet shaving community if you need to have your razor worked on send it to someone who will guarantee their work and their word as Razor Emporium does not!!!!
