I have been a wet shaver for decades, most recently using either a Vikings Chieftain DE razor or a Panasonic electric wet/dry shaver – both of which provide exceptional closeness. I decided to try the Leaf single blade Twig based on the online demonstration. I have used it at least six times with both the furnished blades and halves of my own Sputnik brand blades. Regrettably, I cannot recommend it for the following reasons: - Although the blade angle seems somewhat aggressive for me, the inverted weight distribution (weight in the handle) does not work. There is not enough weight in the head to flatten the very small ridges in the skin ahead of the blade, thus leading to nicks and cuts. It also forces the user to press down harder. - The lack of knurling or grooves in the middle section of the handle causes it to become extremely slippery when wet and ultimately difficult to handle – my finger tips end up right under the head/blade. - The handle is largely hollow to allow use of the stand, but when rinsed, the handle fills with water that pours everywhere when turned upright unless emptied before use. - The opening mechanism is counter intuitive – instead of the standard “righty tighty, lefty loosy”, it is the opposite. Tightening causes the blade cover plate to torque in a clockwise direction exposing unequal amounts of blade. Also, the action of the opening/closing mechanism is very coarse and jumpy – certainly not as smooth as it should be. I have tried to like the razor, but will likely end up sending it back.
