After 55 years with an electric razor, I got interested in wet shaving. I watched lots of videos (Matt's are extremely good!) and got advice. The Parker 91R was highly recommended, so I took the plunge. Turns out to be a great choice! I also tried a couple other (highly recommended) razors and this is by far the pick of the litter! A couple PROS: The shave has the perfect amount of blade feel, just a little bit. I can tell it's there, but I'm not scared it's going to cut me. The razor has a good, solid heft. I like the handle length and it seems well-designed and built. That said, a couple of CONS: The finish was marred by some very small (tiny!) "bubbles" in the plating. The packaging kind of sucks, and most troubling to me, the ends of the blade stick out just a smidge. A friend says he likes that for lifting the blade in/out, but to me, it seems like clumsy design. Over-all a great razor and wonderful bargain at less than $30. After a dozen shaves, I see no reason this won't be "the" razor for me. Hope you have similar results!

I mainly got this specific razor based on Matt's overview video on the Parker brand of razors. I also like longer handles since I have big hands and I prefer enjoying my shaves rather than having super sharp razors. This razor can still perform remarkably well with aggressive blades like a Feather, so you're not sacrificing efficiency for added comfort. The price is also perfect for those looking to get started on a budget. Something I did not expect to discover was that my first, mild safety razor, a Wilkinson Sword, was not compatible with aggressive blades. Anything beyond an Astra Blue (which you can tell from the sample packs as I used a beginner one to test it out) will clump up and the blade will not protrude out of the guard enough to provide adequate shaving. This made my new Parker razor super convenient to use as I can use anything from a mild blade like a Lord to a Feather with no problems. The biggest difference is that the cap bends the blade into a convex pattern, which forces more of the blade beyond the guard. In my experience, I found Astra Greens to be the perfect razor and blade combination since the razor didn't come with any Parker brand razor blades to try. I was able to do my first three-pass-shave--which was largely an accident because I mistook some shaving balm for shaving gel--and I had zero cuts or irritated skin afterwards. As such, I would recommend this razor to just about anyone.

First experience using a DE razor after 55 yrs. why didn’t I do this sooner! Did a bunch of research and wanted a heavier razor with a longer handle. The Razor Emporium reviews were spot on. It is substantially heavy. Handle length is fine as I’m a mechanic and used to large tools. Almost thought to heavy the first shave but after 3-4 shaves it feels fine. And speaking of shaves the first stroke out of the box was better than any cartridge. Do recommend the beginner blade assortment. So much easier to get started correctly.
